Dan Lanigan
Coach
In 2018 long after a successful boxing career ended, I decided to return to the only thing I really know… Sport. Only this time i was a little too old to lace up the gloves again or dust off my old football boots, so I decided on a couple of marathons. After completing 2 in 4 weeks I was already searching for the next challenge. I decided on a Ironman, only there was a couple of problems. I couldn’t swim and didn’t own a bike.
While on holiday in Spain I started searching for coaches and 1 name kept coming up. Tony Cullen and TriCentraluk. I contacted Tony and arranged a meeting. While talking to Tony he quickly pointed out that completing a Ironman wouldn’t satisfy me, he knew instantly I’d want more than completion. He was right!
After my first season in triathlon I completed 6 triathlons and finished top 10 in all of my races,
Year 2 and bang into a world pandemic I managed to get a couple of races in where I got my first podium at Alderford Tri finishing 3rd overall and winning my AG onto the next one, I drove to Estonia to race Ironman Tallinn 70.3 where I finished 3rd overall and 2nd AG riding one of the fastest bike splits of the day.
Year 3 and into the big one…Ironman uk. This was my first full Ironman and what originally got me into the sport. Finishing 8th overall and 3rd AG it was 2 podiums in a row and a Kona qualification. After Kona got cancelled I decided to race Mallorca 70.3 and again there another podium after finishing 3rd AG.
At the awards Tony pulled me to one side and asked me to join the TricentralUK coaching team. Wow. This was a complete shock but something that I was well up for. Tony seen something in me that I could offer to others. I have been fortunate enough to complete for GB and box all over the world for my country and win pretty much everything possible, as well as having played football for my beloved Manchester City as a schoolboy. This has led me to learn from some of the best coaches in the those sports. I know what it takes to be a great coach and I certainly know one when I see one.
This year (2022) I have already had a podium after heading to Lanzarote when I finished 3rd AG. Four in a row, You can’t fluke this surely.
This is down to what we do at TricentralUK. We do things right, we have built a community of all standards of athletes, no egos. Everyone gets treated the same here and that for me is what stands out the most.
I genuinely love this team and every athlete involved, it’s going from strength to strength and our results speak for themselves.
